The text that you see the hyperlink on is called the “Anchor Text”. Well planned anchor text includes keywords that provide search engines and people with a good idea of what they will find when they click the link.
What Anchor Text is not: A link on the words, “Click Here” is not anchor text. A hyperlink around the text, “Texas web design services” is a good example of anchor text (The hyperlink would begin with the word “Texas” and stops after the word “Services”.)
Careful use of keywords raises the chance of your pages receiving better placement in search engine rankings. Search engines use anchor text to evaluate the content of the page.
Warnings: Make sure that relevant keywords are used. Don’t try to fool a search engine. They’ve been around a long time and they are very aware of tricky keyword scams.
You should change the anchor text here and there on different websites. Refrain from placing a large number of links on other sites with the exact same keywords. Use specific keyword phrases (called “long-tail” keywords) A long-tail keyword is a more detailed phrase. For example, a short-tail keyword could be “auto repair”, while the long-tail version would be something like “Texas foreign auto repair” or maybe “Houston Audi Repair Service”. You will be amazed by the volume of profitable long-tail phrases viewers will look for. Although the short-tail phrases may get many thousands of searches, your best chances of being at the very top of the list for them is very low, unless you maintain a very old and established website containing tons of backlinks.
Stay away from trying to put your links on networks that are created to trick the search engine result pages. This might increase your page rank for a short while, but if Google catches you, your page rank will decrease — and probably for good.
