Shack Out on 101: Lee Marvin is a cook named Slob at a seaside greasy spoon in this cold war classic. The waitress (Terry Moore) seems to be spending most of her time fending off the lecherous advances of almost all her co-stars, but in fact she is trying to stop nuclear secrets from leaving the country. This is positively a one of a kind film, with most of the action taking place on a lone shabby set. Cast includes Terry Moore, Frank Lovejoy, Lee Marvin, Keenan Wynn, and Whit Bissell. The Last Temptation of Christ: An imaginative and inciting film from Nikos Kazantzakis’ novel which presumes in regards to Jesus’ self-questions when he realizes that he has been selected by The Lord to tote His message. Moments of incredible beauty are reduced somehow by mundane discussion and dull scenes. Cast includes William Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, Harry Dean Stanton, David Bowie, Vema Bloom, Andre Gregory, Juliette Caton, Roberts Blossom, Irvin Kershner, Nehemiah Persoff, and Barry Miller. Shadowlands: A poignant, prudent, peacefully gratifying drama in regards to British author C. S. Lewis (Ackland), a verified bachelor, and how he is changed when he falls in love with American divorcee Bloom. Quality work is done by the megastars utilizing an outstanding award caliber script by William Nicholson. Cast includes Joss Ackland, Claire Bloom, David Waller, and Rupert Baderman. S.O.B.: An inventor hatches a plan to turn his latest turkey into a hit. He plans to juice it up with pornography and have his spouse-megastar (Andrews) show her breasts. A glib satire on the contemporary movie scene tosses in everything from black humor to dry, with wildly choppy outcomes. This was Holden’s last film. Cast includes Julie Andrews, William Holden, Richard Mulligan, Robert Preston, Robert Vaughn, Loretta Swit, Larry Hagman, Marisa Berenson, Robert Webber, Stuart Margolin, Craig Stevens, Shelley Winters, Rosanna Arquette, and Jennifer Edwards. Mrs. Dalloway: Redgrave is glowing as the spouse of a British M.P., who on the night of a soiree, thinks back to her youth when she selected between a safe, secure life and a more challenging presence with a gentleman who genuinely loved her. McElhone is a phenomenal match for Redgrave in the flashback scenes. Cast includes Vanessa Redgrave, Natascha McElhone, Rupert Graves, Michael Kitcben, Alan Cox, Lena Headey, Amelia Bulhnore, Sarah Badel, Oliver Ford Davies, Katie Carr, John Sitting, Robert Hardy, Margaret Tyzack, and Phyllis Calvert. For Queen and Country: This is a striking modern day thriller of Life in England. Washington is well cast as a prior paratrooper who battles for existence in an environment of racism, poverty, and corruption, and then loses his British citizenship due to a legal technicality. Cast includes Denzel Washington, Dorian Healey, Amanda Redman, Ocean Chapman, and Bruce Payne. (105 minutes, 1989)
The Abdication: A slow pace documentary-drama of that tells the story of Sweden’s Queen Christina who leaves her thrown and converts to Catholicism. The man sent to test her loyalty to the church becomes the man she falls in love with. Peter Finch, Cyril Cusack, Paul Rogers, and Michael Dunn star. (1974 Drama-History)
Number One with a Bullet: Carradine and Williams do well in this somewhat normal action movie where we have aggressive investigators out to dethrone a drug kingpin. Cast includes Robert Carradine, Billy Dee Williams, Valerie Bertinelli, Peter Graves, Doris Roberts, and Bobby DiCicco. (101 minutes, 1987)

A Life less Ordinary: Black comedy in regards to a janitor who abducts his ex-supervisor’s little girl, a ruined heiress who finds life a bore. Ju-on The Grudge: Ghosts of a violently killed mom and her child vengefully terrorize and murder a succession of individuals who have a connection with the humble Tokyo home where the murders took place. Not a tale as such, although a succession of eerie scenes, some peacefully scary, others outright horrifying. Cast includes Megumi Okina, Misaki Ito, Misa Uehara, Yui Ichikawa, Kanji Tsuda, Takako Fuji, Kayoko Shibata, Yukako Kukuri, Takashi Matsuyama, and Yuya Ozeki. (92 minutes, 2003)
